Brewers Owner Accused of Malibu Sand Theft

A billionaire is accused of stealing sand from a public beach in Malibu for his construction project.

Mark Attanasio, the owner of the Milwaukee Brewers, faces a lawsuit claiming he took sand from Broad Beach to use on his property. According to James Kohlberg, Attanasio’s neighbor and son of investor Jerome Kolberg, heavy machinery was used to move the sand, which restricted public access and harmed marine life. Kohlberg alleges that this activity left gasoline residue in the water and sand.

The lawsuit argues that Attanasio received permits in March to fix a seawall but misused them by taking sand in June and July. It accuses him of creating both public and private nuisances and breaking the California Coastal Act. “This case is about a private property owner using a public beach as their own personal sandbox,” states the lawsuit.

Legal Defense:

Kenneth Ehrlich, representing Attanasio, insists that all activities were legal and followed city and county permits . He also mentioned that Attanasio bought his home on Broad Beach for $23 million back in 2007.

Fans might find this news quite shocking given the high stakes involved.
