The Milwaukee Brewers are making sure their legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker’s memory lives on in a special way this season.
Players will wear a custom patch featuring Uecker’s signature over a baseball and plaid pattern, designed in the team’s classic blue and yellow colors. It’s a fitting tribute to the man who spent an incredible 54 years calling Brewers games before passing away in January at age 90.
“We miss Bob every day, and all the more as we approach our first season without him at our side,” said Rick Schlesinger, the team’s president of business operations.
The absence of Uecker’s familiar voice at American Family Field will be tough for fans and players alike. He wasn’t just a broadcaster – he was the heart and soul of Brewers baseball for over five decades.
“We cannot fill the hole that his absence has created,” Schlesinger added, “but the jersey patch will be a way to honor his memory whenever we take the field.”
Fans will get their first look at the memorial patch when spring training kicks off on February 22. Players will wear it throughout the entire 2024 season.
The team isn’t stopping there. They’re planning a special ceremony to celebrate Uecker’s life during the regular season in Milwaukee, with details to be announced soon.
Known for his quick wit and self-deprecating humor, Uecker was more than just the voice of the Brewers. He was “Mr. Baseball” to generations of fans, a former MLB player himself, and even found fame as an actor and comedian.
