The Atlanta Braves have placed Reynaldo López on the injured list due to right forearm inflammation.
This move is retroactive to August 2, and Bryce Elder has been called up from Triple-A to start Tuesday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. López had been out since July 28 when he left a game against the New York Mets with forearm soreness. Despite an initial clean MRI, his discomfort continued, leading to this decision. Mike Axisa recently noted that López’s increased workload this year was a concern.
López has been fantastic for the Braves in 2024. Once seen as a failed starter and bullpen regular, he turned things around this season. In 19 starts, he boasts a 2.06 ERA and 3.18 FIP with 102 strikeouts over 104⅔ innings, earning his first All-Star nod .
Braves’ Rotation Woes:
Losing López is tough for the Braves’ rotation already hit by injuries all season long. Max Fried just returned from an IL stint but struggled in his first game back against the Miami Marlins—a team not known for its offense. Spencer Strider also remains out after undergoing surgery for a UCL tear early in the season and likely won’t pitch again in 2024.
Fans might be worried about how these injuries will affect their playoff chances .
The Braves currently hold a record of 60-51 and lead the National League wild-card race but trail the Philadelphia Phillies by six games in their division quest.
What do you think? Can they overcome these setbacks?
