The Dodgers-Yankees rivalry just got spicier after some post-World Series drama that’s still simmering as spring training opens.
After watching the Dodgers celebrate their 2024 World Series victory over his team, Yankees manager Aaron Boone isn’t too happy about how some LA players handled their success.
“Probably a little bit, you don’t like hearing that,” Boone said Tuesday when asked if the Dodgers’ trash talk bothered him. He was speaking at the Yankees’ first spring training press conference of 2025.
The five-game series itself was a rollercoaster. It opened with an unforgettable Game 1, where Freddie Freeman crushed a walk-off grand slam in extra innings. The Dodgers then took Games 2 and 3, both with 4-2 wins.
The Yankees showed some life with a blowout win in Game 4. They even jumped out to a 5-0 lead in Game 5.
But then it all fell apart.
The Dodgers mounted an incredible comeback to clinch the title, and apparently, some players weren’t shy about rubbing it in.
“The reality is, we didn’t play our best in the series and they won. So they have that right to say whatever,” Boone admitted. But he couldn’t resist adding a jab of his own: “Hopefully we’re in that position next year and handle things with a little more class.”
It’s worth noting that both teams were powerhouses last season. The Dodgers led baseball with 98 wins, while the Yankees topped the American League with 94.
Could we see these teams face off again this October? The odds say it’s possible – both are favorites to win their respective leagues in 2025.
If it happens, it would be pretty special. The last time we saw back-to-back Dodgers-Yankees World Series was nearly 50 years ago, in 1977-78.
And this time, there might be a little extra motivation involved.
