Boone: Cortes Likely for World Series Roster

Aaron Boone announced that Gerrit Cole will pitch in Game 1 of the World Series against the Dodgers on Friday. Nestor Cortes might also join the Yankees’ roster for this series after recovering from an elbow injury.

Cole, who won the American League Cy Young Award last year, had a late start to his season due to elbow issues but managed a 3.41 ERA in 17 games. In October, he helped the Yankees reach the World Series with strong performances against the Royals and Guardians, boasting a career postseason ERA of 2.98.

Cortes made significant contributions during the regular season with a 3.77 ERA across 30 starts and one relief appearance . Although he was unhappy about moving to relief pitching at times, his versatility is valuable for New York’s lineup.

Yankees’ Pitching Strategy:

The Yankees included 12 pitchers in their ALCS lineup against Cleveland, featuring Marcus Stroman who surprisingly didn’t play despite making 29 starts earlier this year.

Fans might wonder if these pitching choices will finally break their championship drought since their last title win in 2009.

What do you think? Will these moves help them win it all?
