Mookie Betts is heading back to right field after his injury, said Dave Roberts.
Betts had been playing shortstop before he got hurt on June 16. He’s expected to be back on Monday.
The switch to shortstop happened because of Gavin Lux’s throwing issues. Betts was originally drafted as an infielder and played some shortstop in the minors. Most of his major league starts have been in right field, where he’s won six Gold Gloves.
Betts’ Return and Position Change
Betts being able to play shortstop at 31 years old is amazing and shows how great he is. But now, moving him back to right field might help keep him healthy for the playoffs. The Dodgers also want Miguel Rojas at shortstop for better defense .
Fans might think this change will make the team stronger overall.
His hitting skills are still top-notch, and he’ll bat second behind Shohei Ohtani. Before his injury, Betts had a .304/.405/.488 slash line with 10 homers and nine stolen bases in 72 games. People were even talking about him for MVP.
As for the Dodgers, they have a record of 66-49 and only a slim lead over the Padres in their division.
