Unlike other sports drafts, baseball players often take years to reach the major leagues. For instance, last season’s top pick Paul Skenes didn’t debut until May this year. He’s now an All-Star but that’s rare; most players need several years before they make an impact.
However, some early picks do become stars . Look at 2019’s first round: Adley Rutschman, Bobby Witt Jr., Riley Greene, and CJ Abrams are all All-Stars now. Corbin Carroll, George Kirby, Bryson Stott and Anthony Volpe were also picked that year.
Fans might find it exciting to see who will emerge as future stars from this draft.
The Guardians have the top pick despite their 76-86 record last season—they won December’s draft lottery with just a 2% chance! This is Cleveland’s first time picking number one overall.
